Forstbauer Natural Food Farm

Forstbauer Family Natural Food Farm with by joining us at Earth Day on Saturday!!! We are so lucky to have this amazing local family run farm in our Valley!

Founded in 1977 the Forstbauer Farm is a Certified Organic Farm in Chilliwack British Colombia, farmed using Biodynamic Principals and Certified through the Biodynamic Society of British Colombia (Demeter).  Mary and Hans Forstbauer were pioneers in the early Organic farming movement 30 years ago and are still farming with integrity and passion.  They raised their twelve children on the farm and many of them are still involved in the farm today, and several have organic farms of their own.

Healthy Food From Healthy Soil… What does this mean? We farm with the purpose of providing you with food that is not only of great quality & flavour, but also of great nutritional value. We farm with the understanding that the life & health of the soil is vitally important to insuring that the food we produce has everything it needs to fuel our bodies.

I have heard that this wonderful family just might be giving away some gifts at Earth Day Fraser Valley 2013… but don’t take my word come see for yourself!

The PIPE UP Network is made up of residents of Southwestern BC who have come together because of our concerns about the safety, environmental, and financial implications, of shipping tar sands along Kinder Morgan’s  Trans Mountain Pipeline, which runs from Edmonton, AB to Vancouver, BC.

Members of the network are dedicated to educating themselves and their communities about the existing pipeline, plans for expansion, and alternatives to tar sands; showing that we have the power to make the needed changes.

The problem with tar sands shipments: High risk, high costs, environmental devastation

Our research has led us to conclude that tar sands shipments represent an unacceptable risk to local residents along the pipeline route and net financial costs to all Canadians. Shipping raw tar sands bitumen to Pacific Rim markets is, in essence, exporting jobs. While losing thousands of jobs, net gain in employment in BC as a result of expansion of the pipeline, after construction, would be tensof jobs. However, that is not all: As Economist Robyn Allan’s analysis has shown, selling raw tar sands in foreign markets, while increasing Canada’s carbon footprint, will also increase the price of petroleum for Canadians. Although the PIPE UP Network believes that we need to end our dependency on fossil fuels, we support a just transition with investments in renewable energy sources that makes the shift affordable for all people.

The largest tar sand spill to date occurred in Marshall, Michigan on July 23, 2010. Toxic gasses escaped into the atmosphere and the heavy bitumen sank to the bottom of the Kalamazoo River causing authorities to close a 35-mile portion of the river. The total cost of the clean-up is approximately $800 billion. The disaster depressed the local economy, fishing, tourism and real estate. Sixty percent of residents suffered health problems. In July, 2012, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board report found that the spill was the result of “pervasive organizational failures” by the pipeline operator, Enbridge. The NTSB also blamed the accident on “weak federal regulations” by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration for the accident. This should give Canadians pause after recent weakening of regulatory and environmental legislation (Bill C-38) by the Harper government.

Given the track record of Kinder Morgan, we believe that their pipeline may be another Kalamazoo waiting to happen.

beansAs many of us become more informed and educated with the broken system, many have started making different choices in their lives. Including growing food, choosing safe food, buying directly from the organic farmer and understanding that the real farmacy is where its at!

Them Beans is a Plant Based, whole food Grocer in Chilliwack BC. We are starting out as an online store. You order, and we deliver to your door anywhere within the Fraser Valley. This website is my way of sharing one of my passions.  Being healthy by living a clean, green, compassionate lifestyle. I believe this can simply be done through eating a completely plant based diet.

I believe that as a society we are getting sicker, and feel that we rely too much on medicine from the large drug companies.  These companies have no interest in seeing us get healthy.

I will strive to have difficult to find plant based foods, as well as a large inventory of Gluten Free foods. With thembeans.ca, I will do my utmost to keep the products reasonable and more inexpensive than anywhere else.

Along with availability of products, I will deliver within Chilliwack and ship to many locations.

Take a look around the site and if you have any questions or suggestions feel free to email me.

As well, if there is a product that I don’t have and would like to get it, let me know and I will do my best to make it available.

Make sure you remember your reusable shopping bags as you might just want to fill them up with all sorts of good food choices from them BEANS! You can check them out on Facebook, shop online or hit up their home and go shopping!
