Is there no actual, logical compromise and a more common sense approach? I do not want bitumen piped across my favorite home province either but they are saying if we process it in Kitamat, the refined product will be safer in case of a catastrophe at sea which says nothing about the land based foul up that, flat out, frightens everyone. If this processing mitigates the dangers, why don't we build this refinery closer to the source, say in the raw material, heavily polluted area where it originates and pipeline the safer product to a shipping dock on our precious coast. I am not an expert in any of these areas, but it would seem that the almost lost environmental cause of fort mac would be a better place to chance the worst scenario.
Another question or maybe just rhetoric. This issue, like everything else like it, as an environment comes after cash argument, is a foregone conclusion. Our prime minister has already decided our economy will be based on resource extraction and so the refinery will take exactly the same time to build as it will take to get past all of the protesting of the environmentalists that only seem to say no, first nations that only seem to waive their traditional land concerns when the cheque is large enough. I know it is not politically correct to say anything that does not blow smoke up the afore mentioned butts but look at recent history and you will see that the writing is on the wall.
Yet one more point. China has approved a $25 billion dollar loan from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. Why is harper selling everything wholesale to a wealthy, energy staved nation. It started with the lock, stock and barrel sale of Nexen to cnooc last summer, again, after protests and lots of debate Familiar?
What about our eastern countrymen that are buying foreign oil in an oil rich nation? Don't they deserve a little more consideration? All I hear in question period is how the harper gov't stands up for Canadians. Maybe a Canadian gov't in 2015 would stand up for us better than a harper gov't. If it is that easy to get $25B from the Chinese, get then to build one of them conduits to Ontario for us and then you can have some of what you obviously crave in an immense, emerging economy. Why is harper giving anything away or even allowing the purchase of our country in the first place.
Two more questions, is that what you call conservative? And, is there no actual, logical compromise and a more common sense approach?

Signed sincerely by a very patriotic, concerned and bewildered conservative

I imagine this place daily! Working together as a community helps to open the dialogue, accomplish projects and make change. As a permaculture designer and continual learner, working with nature instead is really important. The Valley Permaculture Guild shares this vision and the group is growing and learning together to learn, share and make change! Great comment, thank you!

magine a world where organic farming is the leading form of agriculture. A world where everyone-from all income levels and geographic locations-has access to food grown without chemical pesticides and fertilizers that have been linked to myriad diseases and disorders. A world where instead of just a few agribusinesses getting rich off selling chemicals and chemically grown food, farmers thrive economically while they also help improve the health of our fragile ecosystem. Where the need for millions of pounds of toxins is eliminated keeping them from entering our water, air and soil. A world where agriculture and nature exist in harmony providing healthier food for everyone.,
