Simon is our Valley’s Permaculture Mushroom Guy! With many years or learning, wild foraging and Earth repair experiments he is our guy! Want to take a nature hike, learn about the plants and what to look for so you too can harvest a bounty of beautiful Oyster Mushrooms or other kinds?

Simon also has created perfect condition chambers for home grown mushrooms that produce hand sized Portobellos and other edible and wonderful mushrooms. At Earth Day he will be demonstrating log inoculation for mushroom growing and will have them for sale too! (YES please!!)

This Spring for $20 with the Valley Permaculture Guild we will be hosting a Wild Walk and Mushroom fry out! Make sure to sign up for the newsletter to know about the dates and what other workshops are happening!

We are so excited that Maan Farms, famously known for their berries, zoo, fun events and playground are coming to Earth Day Fraser Valley. This farm is a destination stop where you can spend the entire day with your family or go there for a date! With an amazing season nearing we are hearing great things about this local family farm. They will be bringing their famous jams and jellies to Earth Day Fraser Valley. Along with their amazing preserves they are bringing their bunnies and are having a “Name the Bunnies Contest”! Make sure you visit with the Bunnies and perhaps pick up a couple jars of the lip smacking goods!

As a long standing member of the Abbotsford & Fraser Valley farming community, Maan farms understand how important it is to promote and practice environmentally sustainable agriculture techniques.

That is why Maan Farms grows many of their crops 100% pesticide free. In the event some must be used, only the most eco friendly sprays are applied in order to comply strictly with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada standards.  This ensures our plants are able to thrive while the harmful weeds  which negatively impact the health of crops are removed.  Additionally, because our berries and vegetables are produced and sold BC they are not exposed to the high levels of pesticides and other chemicals that are applied to produce crated and shipped from parts of the United States and South America.

Maan Farms is committed to supplying their local community with high quality Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries and Vegetables, using only the most rigorous, sustainable and responsible environmental practices.

Make sure to join the newsletter and enter the “Name the bunnies contest” ! I can’t wait to pet the cute little bunnies!!

thumbCarla Swopes

Carla’s story starts with a childhood passion that evolved into a expressive lifestyle and a beautiful career. Designing and creating flow naturally for her and was patiently self taught. She is now fascinated with broadening her jewelry horizons and seeks guidance from older souls and mother nature.
Each of her designs are earthy, timeless and of excellent quality. Carlas designs are personal expressions of nature’s secrets. She is inspired by the majestic color and shape combinations in nature. Carlas designs are constantly evolving and changing with the seasons, weather and her personal environment. Although each design is one of a kind, they consistency provide a earthy feminine feel that can be dressed up, or casual.

11 years of loving design

In 2002 her career began with part time consignment, wholesale and custom order sales through networking and word of mouth. In 2004, Carla was well involved and very passionate about beads and jewelry, which led to her unique small town bead shop in Hope, BC called Beadifferent. Beadifferent was the beginning of her many beading and wire workshops for all skill levels and consistant creation of unique custom jewelry for casual wear, special occasions and bridal parties.
She retired from Beadifferent in 2010, which is still thriving in the town of Hope. This was the beginning of Carla Swope Jewels, the vision for a travelling independant custom jewelry design adventure.

We love the local talent that is in our Valley, I can’t wait to see all the beautiful designs!

ImagePure Life Paddle Boards will be joining us at Earth Day!

With lives becoming more fast paced and it becoming increasingly difficult to disconnect ourselves from work, stand-up paddle boarding is the answer. As one of the fastest growing sports in the world, paddle boarding allows for you to step onto the water and reconnect with family, friends and the environment itself.

It’s more than a sport or an activity. It’s a lifestyle….

Pure Life Paddle Boards wants to do everything it can to help ensure the aquatic environments we enjoy so much are properly taken care of. For this reason we have committed to donating a percentage of all sales to local environmental organizations like the Living Oceans Society and the David Suzuki Foundation.

Discover pura vida and experience the pure life! I love Paddle boards they are so much fun , and better yet they are in our Valley!!

Forstbauer Natural Food Farm

Forstbauer Family Natural Food Farm with by joining us at Earth Day on Saturday!!! We are so lucky to have this amazing local family run farm in our Valley!

Founded in 1977 the Forstbauer Farm is a Certified Organic Farm in Chilliwack British Colombia, farmed using Biodynamic Principals and Certified through the Biodynamic Society of British Colombia (Demeter).  Mary and Hans Forstbauer were pioneers in the early Organic farming movement 30 years ago and are still farming with integrity and passion.  They raised their twelve children on the farm and many of them are still involved in the farm today, and several have organic farms of their own.

Healthy Food From Healthy Soil… What does this mean? We farm with the purpose of providing you with food that is not only of great quality & flavour, but also of great nutritional value. We farm with the understanding that the life & health of the soil is vitally important to insuring that the food we produce has everything it needs to fuel our bodies.

I have heard that this wonderful family just might be giving away some gifts at Earth Day Fraser Valley 2013… but don’t take my word come see for yourself!
